Where is the option to import campaigns from another account?

The feature to import (or copy) a campaign from one Google Ads account to another is not available directly within the campaign interface on the Google Ads website.

Google intentionally separates campaign data between accounts for security and billing integrity. To move a campaign, you need to use one of the platform’s professional tools designed for managing multiple accounts and data transfer:

Method 1: Using Google Ads Editor (Recommended & Fastest)

The Google Ads Editor is a free, downloadable desktop application from Google that is designed for making bulk changes and transferring entities between accounts quickly.

Detail and Advice

1. Download Accounts

Open Google Ads Editor and download both the Source Account (where the campaign is now) and the Destination Account (where the campaign is going).

This ensures you are working with the latest version of both accounts offline.

2. Copy Campaign

In the left-hand navigation, select the Source Account. Click on Campaigns, select the campaign(s) you want to move, and click Edit > Copy.

This copies all campaign settings, Ad Groups, Keywords, and Ads.

3. Switch & Paste

In the Editor, switch to the Destination Account. Click on Campaigns, and click Edit > Paste.

The new campaign will appear locally in the Destination Account with “(Copy)” appended to its name.

4. Review & Post

Crucial Step: Review all settings (especially Budget, Location Targeting, and Final URLs) to ensure they are correct for the new account. Click Post to upload the new campaign to the Google Ads server.

Watch out for currency conversion errors: If the two accounts use different currencies ($\text{£}$ vs. $\text{€}$), the numerical value of the budget will be copied exactly, and you must manually adjust the monetary value to be correct.

Method 2: Export and Import via CSV

This method is less direct but effective if you want to use a spreadsheet to edit data or if you cannot use the Google Ads Editor for any reason.

  1. Export from Source: In the Source Account, go to the Campaigns tab. Select the campaign(s). Click the Download icon and choose CSV. This downloads a spreadsheet containing all campaign data, ad groups, and keywords.
  2. Edit the CSV: Open the spreadsheet.
    • Rename the Campaign: Change the campaign name to be unique for the new account.
    • Review IDs: The spreadsheet will contain Campaign IDs, Ad Group IDs, etc. Clear or delete these ID columns before importing, as Google needs to create new, unique IDs for the destination account.
  3. Import to Destination: In the Destination Account, click the Tools icon.Under Bulk actions, click Uploads. Upload the modified CSV file.

4. Review: Google will process the file and prompt you to Review the changes. Check for any errors before finalising the import.

Why This is Not a Simple Option

  • No Historical Data: Regardless of the method you use, the new campaign will not transfer any historical performance data (impressions, clicks, conversions, Quality Score history) from the original account. It starts fresh.
  • Conversion Tracking: Conversion tracking tags, remarketing audiences, and other audience lists are unique to the original account and will not transfer. You must set up new conversion tags and audience lists in the destination account.
