How do I add multiple asset groups in one campaign?

If your campaign is already live, follow these steps to expand it:

  1. Select the Campaign: Log in to Google Ads and click on the Performance Max campaign you wish to edit.

  2. Navigate to Asset Groups: In the left-hand page menu, click the Campaigns > Asset groups tab.

  3. Create New: Click the      button.

  4. Define the Theme: Name the Group: Use a descriptive name (e.g., “Summer Collection” vs. “Winter Essentials”).

    • Final URL: You can use a different landing page for this specific group.

  5. Upload Assets: Populate the group with the required 2026 specifications:

    • Images: Up to 20 images (include at least one 1.91:1 landscape and one 1:1 square).

    • Videos: Up to 5 videos (16:9, 1:1, and 9:16 vertical for YouTube Shorts).

    • Text: Up to 15 headlines and 5 long headlines.

  6. Add Audience Signals: Attach specific signals to help Google AI understand who should see this specific set of creatives.

  7. Save: Click Save to add the group to your campaign.

To Bulk Addition via Google Ads Editor

For technical writers and large-scale advertisers, the Google Ads Editor is the most efficient way to manage multiple groups:

  • Download your account data into the Editor.

  • Navigate to Asset Groups under the “Manage” section.

  • Use the “Make Multiple Changes” tool to paste a spreadsheet containing multiple asset group names, URLs, and asset paths.

  • Post the changes to the live account.

Best Practices for Multiple Asset Groups

  • Thematic Segmentation: Do not just add groups for the sake of it. Create separate groups based on product category (e.g., “Running Shoes” vs. “Hiking Boots”) or audience intent (e.g., “New Customers” vs. “Loyalty Members”).

  • Asset Variety: Google’s 2026 AI relies on “Asset Coverage.” Ensure every group includes vertical videos to capture the massive growth in YouTube Shorts and Discovery traffic.

  • Audience Signals per Group: Each asset group should have its own unique Audience Signal. This tells Google: “For these specific ads, look for these types of people first.”

  • Retail/Merchant Center: If using a product feed, use Listing Groups (formerly product groups) within each asset group to filter which specific products match the creative theme.
