The bid strategy is the core instruction that tells Google Ads how to manage your bids in the auction to achieve your campaign goals. It can be viewed and managed in two main areas: within the Campaign Settings, or in the dedicated Bid Strategies section.
Here is a simple, step-by-step guide on how to check your current bid strategy.
Viewing via Campaign Settings (Most Common & Fastest Method)
This is the fastest way to check the bid strategy for an individual campaign, and to see any associated targets or caps.
Step 1: Navigate to Campaigns
Sign in to your Google Ads account.
In the left-hand navigation menu, click Campaigns.
Step 2: Access Campaign Settings
Find the specific campaign you want to check in the table and click on its
name or directly click
Step 3: Locate the Bidding Section
On the Campaign Settings page, scroll down until you see the Bidding section.
This section will clearly state your current bid strategy.

Bidding strategy: Maximize Conversions | This is your chosen strategy. |
Target cost per acquisition (CPA): £25.00 | This is the specific target/limit you have set. |
Max. CPC bid limit: £5.00 | This is the hard ceiling you have set for the strategy (if applicable). |

1. Add the Bid Strategy Column to the Campaigns Table
Advise: For quick monitoring, you can display the bid strategy type right in your main Campaigns table:
Go to the Campaigns view.
Click the Columns icon above the table.
Select Modify columns.
Under the Attributes category, check the box next to Bid strategy type.
Click Apply.
This lets you see the strategy for every campaign without clicking into the settings each time.
