In Performance Max, the “Final URL” is the primary landing page you want Google to prioritize. However, how you change it depends on whether you want a fixed link or if you are allowing Google to automatically find better pages on your site.
Step 1: Manual Update (The Static Method)
Use this if you want to direct traffic to a specific product or category page.
Select Campaign: Click on your Performance Max campaign.
Navigate to Asset Groups: Click the Asset groups tab in the left-hand menu.
Edit Assets: Hover over the specific assets you want to change and click the (or the “Edit asset group” link).
Update URL: Scroll to the very top of the editor. Under the “Final URL” field, delete the existing link and paste your new URL.
Save: Click Save in the bottom right corner.
Step 2: Controlling “Final URL Expansion” (The AI Method)
In 2026, Google often ignores your manual URL if Final URL Expansion is turned on. To ensure your new URL is actually used, you must manage your Asset Optimization settings.
How to find these settings:
Go to the Campaign Settings for your PMax campaign.
Look for the “Asset Optimisation” or “Automatically Created Assets” section.
To force your specific URL: Uncheck the box that says “Final URL” (under Text/Asset Customisation). This tells Google: “Only send traffic to the URL I provided in the asset group.”
To allow Google to help: Keep it checked, but use URL Exclusions to prevent Google from sending people to “About Us” or “Privacy Policy” pages.
