Sitelink Assets (formerly called Sitelink Extensions) provide users with additional clickable links beneath your main ad text, directing them to specific, valuable pages on your website (e.g., pricing, hours, specific product categories). This makes your ad bigger and significantly improves your ad’s visibility and Click-Through Rate (CTR).
Sitelinks can be added at the Account, Campaign, or Ad Group level. We will focus on the Campaign Level for broad relevance.
Step 1: Navigate to the Assets Section
Log In to your Google Ads account.
In the left-hand navigation menu, click Campaigns > Assets
Click the Assets tab.
Click the blue plus button and select Sitelink.
Step 2: Choose the Campaign Level
In the ‘Add to’ drop-down menu at the top, select Campaign.
Check the box next to the specific campaign(s) you wish to apply the sitelink assets to.
Click Done.
Step 3: Create New Sitelink Assets
You have the option to use existing assets from your library or create new ones.To create new ones:
Under the ‘Asset’ section, select Create new.
Fill in the required and recommended fields for each sitelink. You need at least two sitelinks for them to be eligible to show, but it is best practice to create 4 to 6.
Field | Character Limit | Requirement / Best Practice |
Sitelink text | 25 characters | The title of the link. Must be concise and clearly describe the destination page (e.g., ‘Contact Our Team’). |
Description line 1 | 35 characters | Optional, but highly recommended. Use this space to explain what the user will find on the page. |
Description line 2 | 35 characters | Optional, but highly recommended. Use this space for additional detail or a call-to-action. |
Final URL | (Standard URL length) | The specific landing page for this link. It must be different from the main ad’s destination URL. |
Click Add sitelink to create the next one.
When finished, click Save.
Step 4: Review Sitelink Url Options and Advanced Options (Optional)
Before saving, you can customize when the sitelinks are eligible to show:
Device Preference: Select Mobile if you want the sitelink to primarily show on phones (useful for shorter link text).
